An incandescent light bulb, also referred to as an incandescent lamp or incandescent gentle globe, is an electric light that produces illumination by Joule heating a filament till it glows. The filament is enclosed in a glass bulb that's either evacuated or full of inert gasoline to guard the filament from oxidation. Electric current is supplied to the filament by terminals or wires embedded in the glass. A bulb socket offers mechanical help and electrical connections. Incandescent bulbs are manufactured in a wide range of sizes, gentle output, and voltage rankings, from 1.5 volts to about 300 volts. They require no exterior regulating tools, have low manufacturing costs, and work equally nicely on both alternating present or direct current. Consequently, the incandescent bulb turned broadly used in family and commercial lighting, for portable lighting resembling table lamps, car headlamps, and flashlights, and for decorative and advertising lighting. Incandescent energy-efficient bulbs are much less efficient than other varieties of electric lighting. |
