By Election Day 1920, it had been authorized for 50 years, however many Black citizens still did not exercise their right to vote out of concern of retribution. On June 24, 2020, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a law mandating a uniformed statewide schooling curriculum on both the Holocaust and the Ocoee Election Day massacre of 1920 in Florida's public faculties. Those fears came true in Ocoee, Florida, on Nov. 2, 1920, which in the end ended as the most violent day in American election historical past. On Nov. 1, Ku Klux Klan members marched in robes, carrying crosses and threatening violence if any Black males tried to vote in Ocoee. Why is Black History vital to American historical past? What happened in black history on February 3rd? The mob of largely KKK members went looking for Norman - and every other Black trying to assert their proper to vote. The mob headed to Perry's house, but Norman was gone. Norman retreated to the house of his buddy, civil rights activist Julius "July" Perry, leaving the white mob enraged. However the white mob didn't stop there. When Norman approached the polls, a crowd was on the entrance to cease Blacks from casting votes. Following his death and the 1998 breakup of the museum, the Paxton was bought by its present proprietor, Myron Vernis, of Akron, Ohio.
